Giulia Lombardi, Principal Investigator of the project, participated in the conference COMUNICA 2026, held at the University of Perugia on 21–22 May 2026.
During the conference, she delivered a talk entitled “Writing Clear and Effective Legal Briefs: A Linguistic Training Model for Lawyers between Ethos, Pathos and Logos”.
The presentation introduced an interdisciplinary didactic model for the teaching of forensic writing, integrating insights from democratic linguistics, legal linguistics, classical rhetoric, and professional education studies. The proposed framework aims to move beyond the traditional imitation-based training of legal professionals and to promote a reflective and research-informed approach to legal writing.
Particular attention was devoted to the relationship between language and professional credibility (ethos), the role of textual organization and clarity in supporting legal reasoning (logos), and the pragmatic management of persuasion, disagreement, and institutional relationships (pathos).
The presentation also discussed the importance of integrating recent empirical research on legal briefs into university teaching and professional training, fostering collaboration between linguists and legal scholars committed to the promotion of clear and accessible legal language.
